What is the difference between PCB and FPC?
PCB, that is, printed circuit board, usually called hardboard, is the support body of electronic components, but also very important electronic components.PCB generally use FR4 as a substrate, can not be bent, flexing.PCB is generally used in some do not need to bend and require a more rigid strength of the place, such as computer motherboards, cell phone motherboards, and so on.
FPC is a kind of PCB, but with the traditional printed circuit board has a great difference. Will be called a flexible board, known as the flex circuit board, FPC generally use PI as a substrate, is a flexible material, can be arbitrary bending, flexing, FPC generally operated in the need to repeat the flexing and some small parts of the link, but now it is not just so, the current smart phones are trying to bend to prevent, which requires the use of FPC this key technology.
In fact, FPC is not only a circuit board that can be flexed, but it is also an important way of designing a three-dimensional circuit structure, and this structure, together with other electronic product designs, can be constructed to create a wide variety of different applications, therefore, from this point of view, FPC and PCB are very different.
For PCB, unless the way to make three-dimensional form of the line with the film glue, or else the circuit board in general conditions are flat. Therefore, to fully utilize the three-dimensional space, FPC is a good solution. In terms of hardboards, the common space extension program is to use the slot plus the interface card, but FPC as long as the adapter design can make a similar structure, and in the direction of the design is also more flexible. Using a piece of connecting FPC, two pieces of hardboard can be connected into a set of parallel line system, can also be folded into any angle to adapt to different product design.
FPC can of course be connected using terminal connections, but it is also possible to avoid these connections by using flexible rigid boards. A single FPC can be configured and connected to a number of rigid boards using a layout. This approach reduces connector and terminal interference, which improves signal quality and product reliability.
